Lilly pushed the button. Nothing happened, so she pushed it again – harder this time. She heard the grinding of gears from somewhere deep inside the machine. The display screen turned from green to red, and began to flash. She couldn’t read Japanese so she didn’t know what the flashing words meant.
The grinding turned to a high-pitched whir, and it seemed as if the air pressure was changing. The floor started to tremble slightly. A breeze came up out of nowhere. What had she done? They told her it would be ok… Then a blinding flash of light…
